I’d really rather not clean

I think most of my blog posts get written when I’m supposed to be cleaning.

Instead, I’m compiling a list (I love lists!) of things I’m kind of excited about right now.

1.) Pride & Prejudice (the e-book) is free on iTunes so I can read it on my phone while I’m nursing. I read it in high school but in re-reading it I’m finding I remember NOTHING. My memory for books is alarmingly poor. Is this just me?

2.) This cookbook looks awesome. I just put it on hold at the library.

3.) I have an irrational fear of pilates. Something about pilates seems completely foreign and bizarre to me but I’ve decided that irrational fears of certain types of exercise have no room in my 2012 life. So, I think I’m going to try it.

4.) I’m pricing plane tickets to Brussels. I really, really want to get there in late 2012 or early 2013. Just the thought of it is giving me goosebumps. The good kind.

5.) When my sister and brother-in-law were in town, he was talking about belonging to a food club. They meet once a month at a new restaurant that is chosen by a food-writer friend. They live in New York so I think it’s probably kicked up a few hundred notches from what I could expect here but according to the Today Show and Saveur magazine, Kansas City is the new food town of 2012. So there. Who wants to do this with me?

What’s got you excited? Anything you care to pass on?

hey you, 2012

Let’s do this!

Unlike MANY, it seems, I don’t get the “THIS WHOLE YEAR SUCKED” thing. I always have a handful of Facebook friends who say they’re happy to see the year go. I just don’t get that you can hate an entire YEAR. A whole entire year can’t be horrible.

2011 had its ups and downs for us like all years do. My Aunt Barb died in February and that was very hard for our family. But then my beautiful Juniper was born in March and that was joyous. Did you see the Lion King? That movie really nailed it with that circle of life shit.

Though I generally dislike winter and the months of January and February, I do love the New Year and all that it represents. Fresh starts, new leaves to turn over, making plans you have no real intention of actually seeing through.

What’s on deck for 2012? The end of days? You think?

I’m hoping for some of the following:

1.0) try 100 beers (now that I’m a beer drinker, I must brush up. I don’t even know the difference between a lager and an ale).

2.0) Travel somewhere new. 2011 didn’t allow this because of my sister’s wedding…almost all of our travels were related to the wedding. How about New Orleans? I’ve never been.

3.0) Get some plans in the works to take Zoe and Junie to Europe before Zoe is in elementary school.

4.0.) Be 100% vegan 90% of the time. Percentages are funny, but maybe a bit more realistic.

5.0) Do some cool stuff with my kids. Zoe has 1.5 years left before she starts Kindy and I want to pack some cool stuff in. Let’s find a fucking elephant to ride!

6.0.) Read two books a month. Not one. or 1/2.

What are some of your resolutions? Plans? Anti-plans? I’d love to know what everyone else has up their sleeves.
