the state of last year’s resolutions
A friend told me today that she wanted to see what came of my 2010 resolutions. I guess if you’re going to make resolutions it’s good to go back and see how well you did.
2010 RESOLUTIONS
Start writing something (anything – even if it sucks) every. single. day. (I might actually do this one)
NOPE! Not even close. I started out ok, but then I had another miscarriage and felt pouty and boring and then got pregnant again and felt nervous and then physically very sick (this one stuck!) causing me to take to my bed and abandon my online life.
Stop trying to control everything. Sit back and see how things play out if I don’t step in. (difficulty rating: off the charts)
MAYBE! At least a little. I think 2010 was my year of letting go…or as much as possible for a person like me. Not that it was all my doing, I learned some lessons from what the universe threw at me.
Eat more plants. Different kinds – like kale and shit.
sucked
Learn to knit awesome things. Or anything at all. (I feel like I can at least TRY this one)
totally sucked
Do things with Trav and the kids that THEY want to do. Maybe try a video game or two. (please let it be the Mario one that I already know how to do)
nope again!
Travel somewhere new. Even if it’s Oklahoma City. (this should really be on everyone’s resolution list)
YES! I traveled a fair amount this year – two new places: Destin, FL, and St. Louis, MO. And the usual Chicago, Detroit, Traverse City.
Figure out the motherfucking sewing machine.
big old no! didn’t even touch it!
Attempt difficult cooking and baking tasks and do not act as though it is life or death if it doesn’t turn out. (I get a little nuts)
horrible failure here!
Write old fashioned letters to people. On paper. Or parchment with a quill.
got a few in! But then along came those pregnancy nerves and the morning sickness and then the holidays…..
Eat donuts every other Sunday. (Life is short. This one I think I can do. We’ve already started.)
pretty fucking successful! Didn’t make EVERY other Sunday but there were a lot in there, thank you very much.
How did you do with yours?

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
2010 was pretty good to us, and I’m hoping 2011 will be even better (even though it will mean I will have been out of high school for 18 years, as a Facebook friend recently reminded me – I am OLD).
Even though I’m not very good at celebrating NYE (I was in bed last night at 10), I do like making New Year’s Resolutions. I like to make semi-attainable ones that involve leisure or fun – the kind that leave me happier as opposed to “better”.
Here are my 2011 resolutions.
1.) Enjoy leisurely Sunday mornings with the Sunday New York Times and coffee. This will be infinitely easier this year because my mom got me the Sunday Times for Christmas, and my mother-in-law got me this super easy one-cup coffee maker that has fresh coffee there for me in 30 seconds with almost no effort required on my part. Hey – I said LEISURELY.
2.) Travel somewhere new. I want this on my list of resolutions every year. It doesn’t have to be somewhere glamorous, it just has to be somewhere NEW (2009 was Omaha, 2010 was St. Louis).
3.) Get back to writing on this motherfucking blog, because I DO enjoy it.
4.) Try at least 5 new restaurants in the Kansas City/Lawrence area. Including this one.
5.) Figure out some new tricks on my camera. Like how to use it.
What are some of yours?
